Our approach
Stay for Chinese Tea is an independent English-language cultural publication operated by Xuheng Xiao. We collect as little personal information as possible and do not sell personal information.
Information currently handled
The site does not offer reader accounts, accept payments or run personalised advertising. You can read the published stories without giving us your name or email address.
Like most hosted websites, our hosting and security providers may process technical information needed to deliver and protect the site. This can include an IP address, browser and device information, requested pages, timestamps and security logs.
If you explicitly accept analytics, Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity help us measure visits, article engagement and usability. We do not send search text, email addresses or other free-form personal information as analytics event parameters. Advertising storage, advertising user data and advertising personalisation remain disabled.
Information you choose to send
If you contact us, we may receive your name, email address and anything you include in your message. We use it only to respond, handle a correction or rights request, discuss a contribution, or consider a partnership. We retain correspondence only as long as reasonably necessary for that purpose and for legitimate record-keeping.
Newsletter
If you choose to join the Newsletter, we send your email address and form submission information to MailerLite so it can deliver a confirmation email, record your consent and, after confirmation, send the Newsletter and welcome email. We use double opt-in: submitting the form alone does not complete the subscription.
MailerLite processes this information on our behalf for email delivery, consent records, security and unsubscribe handling. Emails include an unsubscribe link. You may withdraw consent at any time by using that link or contacting us. MailerLite may process information in countries different from your own under its applicable contractual and data-protection arrangements.
Analytics choices
Analytics tools load only after you select “Accept analytics.” You may reject them and continue using the site, or change your choice at any time through Cookie settings. Google Analytics is our quantitative reporting source; Clarity provides masked session recordings and heatmaps to help reproduce usability problems. Newsletter form values are explicitly masked from Clarity and are never included in analytics event parameters.
Services we may add later
If we activate advertising, affiliate measurement, payments or reader accounts, this policy and the Cookie Policy will be updated before or when those services go live.
Sharing
We may share limited information with service providers that help operate the site, such as hosting, email or security providers. We do not allow them to use it for unrelated purposes. We may also disclose information where required by applicable law or necessary to protect the site, its readers or others.
International processing
Our readers and service providers may be located in different countries. Technical information may therefore be processed outside the country where a reader lives. We select established providers and limit the information used to what is needed for the service.
Your choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to ask about, correct or delete personal information, or object to certain uses. Contact us with enough information to understand your request. We may need to verify that the request concerns you.
Children
The site is written for a general audience and is not designed to collect personal information from children.
